A bit of information

The 2024 Ventia Hobart Cup will be held on Friday, 30th, Saturday, 31st August and Sunday, 1st September 2024.

NEW REQUIREMENTS - all coaches and team managers will need to provide their Working with Vulnerable People information in accordance with Government regulations. The Coach or Team Manager must also complete the Code of Conduct form to acknowledge they have read and understood this information.

Games are being played all over Hobart. Wentworth Park, Cornelian Bay, The Friends’ School (Bell Street), Queens Walk, Soldiers Memorial, Domain West, and Lower Queenborough. The tournament is organised by the Central Region Junior Football Association and the tournament Director is Victoria Morton. The tournament is sanctioned by Football Tasmania and supported by our wonderful naming rights sponsor Ventia. 

Any team whose players are registered with Football Australia are eligible to participate whether they are club, association or even school based. Grouping of teams into divisions will depend on the number of teams entered in that particular age group.

The entry fee for this tournament covers the costs of administration, maintenance, ground and facility hire, ambulance, referee fees, trophies and medallions.This tournament is held purely for the enjoyment and advancement of the children who participate. Everyone involved — whether a player, coach, team manager or spectator — is expected to follow the Codes of Conduct

Rules are adapted from the current FIFA and ALDI Mini Roos rules and accredited referees are appointed to all games.

There will be competitions for both Mixed and Girls ranging from Under 6s to Under 16s.

This year we are offering competitions for the U6 and U7 (4-a-side) age groups for both Mixed and Girls. Players in these age groups will be given participation medallions (maximum of 8 per team) at the end of the tournament.

There will be team trophies and medallions for winners and runners up of all other age group categories courtesy of our sponsor Ventia.

Quick Facts

  • Entry fee is $300 per team

  • We had 180 teams registered in the 2023 Ventia Hobart Cup

  • Each team will play a minimum of 4 games

  • Wherever possible, accredited centre referees will be appointed to youth games and youth teams will be required to provide a line referee. However, teams should be prepared to provide a centre referee for half a game in addition the line referee if no referee is appointed

  • Junior teams will need to share the referee duties (half a game each), as there are not enough referees available to cover these games

  • Winner and Runner Up team trophies for all age groups U8 and above. Medallions for players on Winning and Runner Up teams

  • Only the new U6 and U7 age groups will be provided with participation medallions (maximum 8 per team).

  • First aid on site

  • Refreshments available at each venue

Presentations on the Final Day

There will be no presentations on the day due to the complexity of having multiple venues.

Winning and Runner up teams will receive team trophies and individual medallions.

Presentation of all team trophies and medallions will be confirmed closer to the tournament.

2023

The Hobart Cup was held on 1-3 September 2023 and a total of 180 teams participated.

2022

The Hobart Cup was held on 2-4 September 2022 and a total of 161 teams participated.

2021

The Hobart Cup was held on 3-5 September 2021 and a total of 133 teams participated.

2020

Unfortunately we had to cancel the 2020 Hobart Cup due to the impact of the Covid-19 (SARS-2) pandemic.

2019

The Hobart Cup was held on 5-8 September 2019 and a total of 146 teams participated.

2018

The Hobart Cup was held on 15-16 September 2018 and a total of 105 teams participated.

Acknowledgment

The organisers of the Hobart Cup, alongside the parents, players and football community wish to acknowledge the deep connection to Country and Culture of the traditional custodians on the lands on which we meet, gather and play. For thousands of years, the nine nations of Tasmanian Aboriginal peoples have hunted, gathered, shared and practised Culture on these lands. We acknowledge the pakana palawa of  lutruwita and the Tasmanian Aboriginal communities today and always. We thank them for the history and culture of Country and pay our respect to Elders past, present and those to come.  It is a privilege to play on these beautiful and sacred lands and we are committed to form a part of and support the continued sharing of knowledge and Culture. We gather and play in the spirit of deep respect. Always was, always will be Aboriginal lands.
